Vulcanisation
Vulcanisation is a chemical technological process that enhances the properties of raw rubber. The process involves pressure and heat, as well as the addition of sulphur, to make the rubber more elastic and resilient. Since rubber in its natural state has plastic properties, the application of force makes it possible to shape it in any form, which it then also retains through cross-linking of the organic chains. The process of vulcanisation changes rubber from a plastic to an elastic state. The rubber produced by this process as a result of cross-linking to polymers, is more resistant to mechanical loads, more expandable and more resistant to ageing and atmospheric influences. Compared to the starting material, it also has permanently elastic properties, in addition to better tear strength.
Rubber moulded parts and rubber/metal bonds to customer specifications
AIGO-TEC vulcanises diverse elastomers with a very broad range of material requirements and raw rubber types. In cooperation with our partners we develop rubber compounds for the particular application and in accordance with individual specifications. Depending on the material pairing and other requirements, we produce rubber/metal bonds with and without adhesion promoters. In the production of large quantities, the adhesion promoter is generally applied in fully automated spraying systems. To ensure reliable adhesion of the rubber to the base, primers are used as adhesion promoters in a multi-layer system. Quality control and assurance is a high priority at AIGO-TEC. Throughout production, samples are taken and tested regularly for both non-destructive and destructive testing.
Our vulcanisation department produces rubber and rubber/metal bonded parts, as well as rubber/plastic parts for a broad range of applications. Rubber valve, boots and bellows, vibration mounts, ultrabushes, conical bearings, spherical bearings, buffers and seals are just a few examples.
Both the rubber compounds and the end products are manufactured to the highest standards and go through all required lab tests.
Which materials are processed by AIGO-TEC?
We process about 100 different rubber compounds and are experienced in handling them. Our compounds are based on the following elastomers:
- Natural rubber (NR)
- Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)
- Hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR)
- Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber
- Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)
- Chloroprene rubber (CR)
Where are vulcanised products used?
Our vulcanised products are used in diverse industries and applications. We supply products for general industry, the automotive and construction sectors, the machine-building industry, as well as agricultural firms and wind energy conversion systems.
Which vulcanisation presses are available in the machine park?
Our machine park is equipped with vulcanisation presses with a closing force of up to 2,700 kN. We have both horizontal and vertical presses. They can process an injection capacity up to 4,000 cmΒ³.
We also have experience in the following areas:
- Injection moulding
- Compression moulding
- Transfer moulded parts
- Rubber/metal bonds
- 2-component plastics processing
Which parameters must the parts fulfil?
In our machine park we can vulcanise standard components with the following properties:
- Component base area 350 x 420 mm
- Rubber volume up to 4,000 cmΒ³
- Rubber weight up to 4 kg β depending on the compound
- Parameters for particular projects can deviate from these specifications
